Would Tummy Tuck Surgery Be a Good Option for You?

Posted on

As cosmetic surgery procedures are becoming increasingly popular, more and more people are thinking about plastic surgery as a truly viable option for themselves. Before embarking on any kind of surgical procedure, however, it's very important to consider what you really want to gain from the surgery and if you are actually a good candidate.

Everybody wants to have an enviable flat stomach, and a tummy tuck can be a route to this. But are you actually a good candidate for this surgery? Here are some things to consider.

You have loose skin around the tummy When it comes to a tummy tuck, the most important thing to know is that this is not a weight loss surgery. If you are looking to remove excess fat, something like liposuction could be a better choice for you. A tummy tuck is more suited to people who have excess skin around the tummy area, which perhaps occurred as a result of extreme weight loss.

You don't wish to have more children. The skin around your belly is pretty sensitive and having one surgical procedure on it is really quite enough to make it yet more delicate still. This means that you should only plan on having a tummy tuck if you are a woman who feels like you do not wish to have any more children. The strain of a pregnant belly on a tummy tuck scar would simply be too much, and it could compromise your health and the health of your unborn child. Of course, this rule doesn't apply to men seeking a tummy tuck.

You won't lose more weight. As stated before, a tummy tuck is not a weight loss surgery, and you should actually feel like you are at an ideal weight for you at the time you seek out this surgery. If you lose more weight after the surgery, this isn't going to be a problem for your health, but it will completely negate the effects of the surgery, as you could simply be left with your excess skin. Having a tummy tuck, losing weight, and having another tummy tuck would be a bad idea because, again, this is too compromising for the sensitive skin of this part of the body.

If you are a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery, make sure that you shop around and find a cosmetic surgeon that is accredited, is experienced, and that you feel comfortable with.
